Running Bare Australia Pty Limited started making swimwear in Sydney almost 30 years ago. Wahine, meaning “woman” or “surfing woman” in Polynesian and Maori, was launched in 1996 as a step into the surf market and soon became a popular brand in surf stores throughout Australia. Wahine was a huge success and one of the leaders in taking swimwear in new directions. With a separates range, reversible swimwear and Brazilian fits, Wahine has always been at the forefront of what is hot and continues to develop in innovative ways. Supporting local industry by continuing to manufacture most of the range locally in Sydney, this family-owned company cares and this can be seen in the quality of the swimwear.
For the 2009/10 season, Wahine has created a new label which has been named Ka’ui, also derived from a Pacific influence, meaning “beauty” and “youthfulness”. This new label allows us to separate our two collections within the Wahine brand. Ka’ui presents a more high-end product using luxurious fabrics which are all made in Australia, appealing to the woman with sophistication and style. The traditional Wahine continues to appeal to the surf market with its fun, bright and colourful prints and styles and sits at a more affordable price.
The Wahine collection continues to display stylish separates and glamorous one pieces as well as its traditional surf-inspired bikinis. The Wahine brand offers a range of beautiful kaftans and classic board shorts to complement its swimwear range.
